Newsletter February 2020.This year’s AGM will be held at, The Crown Hotel, 94 Albert Road, Colne BB8 0QD on Tuesday the 18th February 2020 at 8.00pm. The Agenda for the AGM is enclosed herewith.
The full meeting will be preceded by a “session” for new and prospective members to meet officers of the Club and find out more about us. This session will start at 6.30pm. So if you know of anyone who may be interested in joining then bring them along, or if you are a new member in 2019 and want to meet us then this is the opportunity to do so.
If you have any matters that you specifically want added to the agenda or intend to raise under AOB at the AGM, please let us know on or before Monday 10th February.
As usual there will be a pie and peas supper and prize raffle. All donations for raffle prizes, fishing related or otherwise, will be most welcome and please could you bring these along to the meeting.
Subscriptions for 2020
The Club’s policy, proposed and approved at the 2003 AGM was to automatically increase subscription fees each year in line with RPI inflation, subject to members’ approval at the AGM. This proposal came about due to a reluctance to raise the full subscription level to £150 or above, having stayed at £148 for three seasons. Since then, we decided to base the increase on the CPI, being lower than the RPI as well as being the Government’s preferred index for Inflation, we have also had two periods with no increase. As a result last year’s subs were £198 instead of £208 with CPI or even £231 with RPI!
It is now 17 years since this policy was passed and we feel that it needs bringing up to date and should again be discussed by the Club’s members at the AGM. With this in mind, the Treasurer would like to suggest the following possible options:
Option 1
Increase for 2020 season in line with CPI from last year, then annual increase in line with CPI, to be ratified at the AGM. Subs. for 2020 would be £201 Full £147 Senior £97 Junior.
This is broadly in line with current policy.
Option 2
No change for 2020 season then annual increase in line with CPI, to be approved at the AGM.
Subs. for 2020 would be £198 Full £145 Senior £95 Junior.
Similar policy but brought up to date with new start point.
Option 3
Have no standard policy. Committee makes a recommendation each year based on the Club’s accounts, membership levels, lease and stocking costs.
Proposed Subs. for 2020 would be £198 Full £145 Senior £95 Junior
Back to where we were before the 2003 AGM.
Whatever the outcome, if you renew your membership at or before the AGM you will be able to do so at the previous year’s level of membership fees. Juniors under 14 accompanied by a club member may fish for free, sharing the member’s bag limit.
Committee numbers are at their lowest for a number of years resulting in more work (and less Newsletters)! So if any of you feel you can help with events such as the Open Days, Trawden show and things generally, then please don’t be shy to volunteer!
